@Berin: I loved the Old World of Darkness, with all its inconsistencies, but I believe they actually did improve the mechanics. The Storytelling System is one of my favorites.

I was not married to the old World of Darkness, so the setting changes didn't bother me. I'm currently in a "mortals" game using only the core book, and I must say I rather like the system. It's streamlined and fairly rules-lite.

The piece that I like the most, from a system design standpoint, is that you don't get extra build points for Flaws. This has always been a sticking point for me in other point-buy systems like HERO and GURPS: people buy disadvantages to get extra build points or the cost of kewl powerz cheaper, but those disads never come into play. In nWoD, you get XP instead, but only when the Flaws actually come into play. It makes so much more sense.

Berin Kinsman’s last blog post..d20: Turning Base Attack Bonus into a Skill-Based Function
